HUISMANS, H . :Vfacromolccular synthesis in bluetongue virus infected cells. II. Host cell metabolism. Onderstcpoort]. TJC! . R es., 37 (4), 199-210 (1970). Infection of L-cells with bluetongue virus results in inhibition of protein and deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis shortly after infection. No inhibition of ribonucleic acid synthesis is observed before 7 hours after infection. The length of the lag phase before the initiation of the inhibition of protein synthesis is dependent upon the number of infecting virus particles. An increase in the multiplicity of infection results in a decrease in the length of the lag phase. No new macromolecular synthesis is required for the induction of inhibition. Inhibition of viral replication by interferon or UV inactivation docs not prevent the induction of inhibition. Virus neutralized by antiserum or inactivated by heat o r acid treatment is unable to induce the changes in host cell metabolism.

UNLABELLED Bluetongue virus (BTV) is the causative agent of bluetongue, a major infectious disease of ruminants with serious consequences to both animal health and the economy. The clinical outcome of BTV infection is highly variable and dependent on a variety of factors related to both the virus and the host. In this study, we show that the BTV nonstructural protein NS4 favors viral replicatio...

Bluetongue virus, an arbovirus of the Orbivirus genus, infects and replicates in both insect and mammalian cells. However, the cytopathic effect (cpe) on each host is very different. Mammalian cells show substantial cpe, most likely a result of the mechanism of virus release, whereas insect cells show little cpe and appear to release virus without cell lysis. Expression analysis of each infecte...

Bluetongue virus (BTV) is the etiological agent of bluetongue, a hemorrhagic disease of ruminants (particularly sheep), which causes important economic losses around the world. BTV is transmitted primarily via the bites of infected midges, which inject the virus into the ruminant's skin during blood feeding. The virus initially replicates in the draining lymph node and then disseminates to seco...

The study of tumor viruses paves the way for understanding the mechanisms of virus pathogenesis, including those involved in establishing infection and dissemination in the host tumor affecting immune-compromised patients. The processes ranging from viral infection to progressing malignancy are slow and usually insufficient for establishment of transformed cells that develop cancer in only ...
